Italians are increasingly passionate about the Mugello MotoGP Grand Prix. The 2026 edition saw a sharp rise in visitors and fans compared to the previous year (+7.6%, according to ANSA), significantly impacting the mobility generated around the event.
In 2026, the average distance traveled by vehicles to reach the circuit increased by 35.5% compared to 2025, signaling an event that is increasingly able to attract visitors from a broad and diverse geographic area. Consistently with this trend, the average travel time also increased by 20.9%.
These findings come from an analysis carried out by Targa Telematics – Viasat using anonymized telematics data, comparing mobility flows from the 2026 edition with those recorded in 2025.
In this context, around 60% of visitors came from regions other than Tuscany, demonstrating the strong local impact that the Mugello Grand Prix can generate in terms of tourism and related economic activity.
The event’s impact on the local area also emerges from the analysis of overnight stays. Around 20% of the vehicles observed were associated with at least one overnight stay in nearby areas during the Grand Prix weekend. Of these, 82.4% stayed in Tuscany, while the remainder were mainly distributed across Emilia-Romagna (13%), Lazio, Liguria, Lombardy, Marche, Piedmont, and Umbria, highlighting the event’s economic benefits for the hospitality sector as well.
Average access speed also increased (+12%), supported by the use of major high-capacity routes. At the same time, local mobility in the area surrounding the circuit grew by 15.3%, highlighting an intensification of vehicle flows during the event weekend.
The data also makes it possible to objectively measure the impact of traffic generated by the event. The vehicles observed remained in the Mugello area for an average of 13.2 hours during the Grand Prix weekend. On Sunday, the day with the highest attendance, the average speed in the area decreased by 46.7% compared to the previous two days, indicating significantly more congested traffic conditions.
The analysis shows how data from connected vehicles can now transform mobility around a major event into a measurable and predictable system. The information collected makes it possible to analyze visitors’ areas of origin, how they enter and leave the event, the routes they take, traffic conditions, environmental impacts, and dwell-time patterns, providing concrete support for mobility planning, operational management, and sustainability strategies.
