Targa Telematics—one of the leading global players in the AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things) field for the development of digital solutions and platforms for connected mobility — introduces its new solution, Targa Tacho: Digital Tachograph Management and Legal Compliance, aimed at the transportation and logistics sector.
The solution is integrated into the Trackit platform and includes two complementary management modules: the Remote Data Download Module and the Infractions & Driving Behavior Analysis Module. Both are centralized within a single platform, without reliance on external entities, enabling increased operational efficiency. Targa Tacho provides complete, automated, and legally compliant management of tachograph and driver card data, eliminating manual processes and reducing legal risks.
The Remote Data Download Module allows automatic and remote downloading of digital tachograph and driver card files, including Digital Data Distiller (DDD) files, without travel, vehicle downtime, or manual intervention. It enables full compliance with legally mandated deadlines for data downloads, reduces operational and administrative costs, eliminates manual procedures, and lowers the risk of forgetting tasks associated with these processes.
The Infractions & Driving Behavior Analysis Module complements the first by automatically analyzing infractions—such as driving times, breaks, and rest periods—along with other legal non conformities. The main advantages of this module include immediate identification of infractions and legal risks, reduction of fines, sanctions, and audit risks, and direct support for driver management and training. This module therefore strengthens compliance culture and enhances corporate protection within legal and regulatory frameworks, while transforming legal data into actionable insights.
«In a highly fragmented sector such as transportation and logistics, Targa Tacho stands out by bringing together two complementary modules within a single platform. The ability to automatically extract legally required data—within the mandated deadlines—and convert it into actionable information allows for improved driver performance and fleet risk management,” says Tiago Elias, Country Manager at Targa Trackit Portugal. “At the same time, this new solution reinforces the company’s commitment to delivering digital solutions that reduce costs, both through process digitization and remote access, and through the efficiency gains that customers achieve with our solutions, » he adds.
Growing digitization is one of the sector’s major challenges, particularly for smaller companies, which remain highly representative in this field in Portugal. According to the “Road Freight Transport” study published in July 2025 by the Mobility and Transport Authority, the sector comprised around 8,200 companies in 2023, of which 82% were micro‑enterprises, 15% small, 2.5% medium‑sized, and 0.4% (30 companies) large enterprises.
The same study reports that road transport accounted for 64% of the total tons of goods transported in Portugal—90% in the case of domestic transport and 33% in international transport.
Targa Tacho–Digital Tachograph Management and Legal Compliance is being launched in Portugal, with plans to expand to other Targa Telematics markets over the coming months.
