According to a study by Targa Telematics, more than 70 per cent of fleet managers are considering implementing AI

The market is showing growing interest in AI solutions, although this remains largely at the intention stage for the time being, with 23 per cent of fleet managers still ruling out AI in the short term

The use of AI is expected to grow significantly among fleet managers and mobility service providers. This is the finding of the “Fleet Management Watch” report by Targa Telematics, one of the world leaders in the field of AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things) and the development of digital solutions and platforms for connected mobility. The study was carried out in collaboration with the Connected Vehicle & Mobility Observatory at the School of Management of the Politecnico di Milano.

According to the study, 73 per cent of fleet managers say they are currently considering and evaluating the implementation of AI-based solutions in their fleet management activities, whilst only 23 per cent rule out this possibility in the short term.

AI is now a key driver of transformation in fleet management, as it enables problems to be anticipated more effectively and supports operational decision-making. Among the key areas where the integration of AI is considered most strategic, predictive maintenance ranks first (38 per cent), followed by anomaly detection (24 per cent), predictive analytics dashboards (19 per cent) and consumption analysis and optimisation (14 per cent).

The study also examined how vehicle users perceive the benefits of telematics. Thus, 46 per cent of respondents highlighted the vehicle’s ease of use, whilst 23 per cent cited features such as operational support and assistance.

“Whilst the benefits are clear and fleet managers are actively exploring the possibilities, I do note, however, that the approach remains cautious and rather wait-and-see for the time being,” says Sylvie Verboomen, International Key Account Manager at Targa Telematics Belgium. “Yet a data-driven approach is no longer an option. AI is the main driver of change in fleet management. It paves the way for a truly proactive approach, focused on the early identification of potential problems and better support for decision-making. This study confirms that the market is ready; the intention is there. It is no longer a question of experimenting, but of embarking on a concrete path to adoption. »

In this context, the value lies not only in collecting data, but above all in the ability to interpret that data and translate it into operational decisions. With over 25 years’ technological expertise, combining high-quality algorithms with the wealth of data collected, we transform this data into a driver of operational performance and improved asset management within organisations. This “” aims to further improve the efficiency, safety and sustainability of vehicle fleets.

* Targa Telematics’ Fleet Management Watch is based on analysis of fleet and mobility managers participating in the Osservatorio Top Thousand and the Osservatorio Top Hundred. These are permanent observatories established in Italy to monitor key mobility issues. They are aimed, respectively, at companies with more than 1,000 vehicles and those with up to 999 vehicles. Together, these observatories manage nearly 60,000 vehicles across various types of fleets, including corporate fleets, operational fleets, commercial fleets and field service fleets.
